[Plan] The linking of multiple company’s network domains together

Posted by: shiroipanda on: November 13, 2008

There are several ways to do this, each way have difference characteristic in term of cost, security, and reliability. The following is the option that we can select one of them to implement:

  • Using Virtual Private Network (VPN) Technology: There are also different kinds of VPN, here‘s one of the plan that will implemented a version of VPN.
  • Using Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Technology: By take advantage of using leased line, in which we have to pay the TOT around 8,000 Baht/month, we will have a high security rate connection. I decided to cancel out this candidate because it is not worth to do so and other candidate is a lot better in many ways.

Previous discussion is available here.

I agree with the concept that he said that later on, the client-server base will decline popularity and will be replaced by the concept of services. Also with the web application, its trends is coming to replace the old install or setup software architecture.

I think we should focus on developing the web base application and follow the concept of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) in developing the Information Technology System in an enterprise.

Here is what he speak:

Here is a cool video that can guide you to the rough concept of SOA:

[Project] Organization’s Knowledge Base System

Posted by: shiroipanda on: November 13, 2008

Background: This project will be a sub part of the corporate website and web portal project, because I try to create an web base knowledge base system for the firm that will store the video training, FAQs, Manuals, How-to stuffs, and the tutorial. These might help the enterprise to reduce the employees training time and cost, also to help reduce IT burden in the firm.

Purpose: To create a system that help company to reduce the employees training cost and time and also help reducing the firm’s IT burden.

Details: Since we already have a professional digital camera, it seem that we just need a video recorder to create a training video like in the production line, the training video about how to use some computer software can use the web cam or just use some screen capture software to record the video. For example: How to use company’s forum? How to set the configuration in Microsoft Outlook?

The web base that I’ve to create have no cost because its base on open source software and free services. For example, I can use Media Wiki as a company’s knowledge base center, you will feels like using the Wikipedia but just only the contents are all about our businesses, so it will be pretty easy to use and free, here is an example.

Example of what we take can advantage of using the web base video:

Example of video presentation on the website, click here, require to install Quick Time Player on PC platform. If its works, it will show something like this one.

Budget:

Estimated Software Cost:

  • Web Base Knowledge Base System: Free
Note: Using open source web application, Media Wiki
  • Video Player (Podcast): Free
  • Web Server Software: Free
Note: Using open source web application, Apache

Estimated Hardware Cost:

  • Digital Camera: Already have
  • Web cam: A quality one will cost around 1,400-2,000 Baht
  • Headset: A quality one will cost around 500-1,000 Baht
  • Digital Video Camera: Already have a tape digital camera, a quality HD Digital Video Camera that will facilitate the working process will cost around 20,000-40,000 Baht

Conclusion: As a results, a product, services, the system will provide the knowledge center that available useful information to the user can view it on the web apllication or in form of documents: PDF, DOC; Video File that can only view on the company’s website, similar of what showing on above; And only the authenticated organization’s staffs are allowed to access.
